Professor Julio Licinio opens the First National Symposium on Translational Psychiatry, 4 -5 April 2011, at The John Curtin School of Medical Research, The Australian National University. Julio Licinio, MD, FAPA, is Professor and Director, The John Curtin School of Medicine, The Australian National University in Canberra. In the period 2006-2009, Professor Licinio was Miller Professor of Psychiatry and Medicine/Endocrinology, Chairman of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and subsequently Associate Dean for Project Development (Translational Science) and Director, Miami Institute of Translational Medicine in Diverse Communities at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He was previously Director of the University of California, Los Angeles, Center for Pharmacogenomics and Vice-Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at UCLA. His work on the fundamental endocrine and pharmacogenomic mechanisms at the interface of obesity and depression has been extensively replicated and cited in the scientific literature.
